A chocolate fan tucking into her favourite fruit and nut bar was horrified when she found an extra chewy nut was actually a severed human thumb.
The stomach-churning discovery was made when a hospital worker was eating the bar of choc she had bought at the staff shop in Mahiyangana, Sri Lanka.
Graphic images taken after the sickening find show the badly discoloured thumb still with its nail on it poking out of the partially eaten bar.
The woman, who has not been named, had reportedly already eaten some of the chocolate bar on 3rd August and kept the rest in a fridge until she tucked into the rest of it on 5th August, which is when she made the gruesome find.
She bit into the bar and sunk her teeth into something that was much harder than a piece of nut, according to local media.
The bar was bought from a store at the Mahianganaya Base Hospital where health officials are investigating.
All bars on sale in the hospital and nearby shops have been confiscated for tests.
The brand is reportedly a locally made favourite, ‘Kandos K Super Nut Milk Choco’.
Mahiyangana Public Health Inspectors initiated legal action against manufacturers ‘Ceylon Chocolates Limited’ after filing a report with local magistrates on 7th August.
It is currently unclear how the thumb ended up in the chocolate bar or if the hospital worker is to seek compensation for her ordeal.
