A former prostitute who admitted to drugging her husband and slitting his throat has been seized by police nine years after she went on the run.
Former escort Elaine Marques, 37, confessed to killing Belgian national Louis Marot after police in Brazil seized her in 2014.
But she escaped and disappeared until she was rearrested in Salvador de Bahia, just 150 miles from where the calculated killing was carried out in Barra Grande.
Marot had moved to Brazil in 2000, where he worked in maritime transport and began seeing Marques.
The pair moved in together with her daughter from a previous relationship and married in 2014.
But Marques told the police that Marot became abusive after they wed.
She told them: “That’s why I decided to kill him.”
Marques admitted to dosing his tea with diazepam before stabbing him twice in the throat.
She said that after being stabbed, Marot woke up and jumped up, running after her before collapsing in the garden from blood loss.
Marques at first tried to claim that burglars had killed her husband, but police found the bloodstained knife she had used on the kitchen table.
She was taken into custody before escaping from prison and disappearing, until now.
