This is the baffling moment when nearly 30 police patrol cars took part in a high speed chase though a city after a single driver who refused to pull over for a traffic stop.

The bonkers chase through Cyberjaya, Malaysia, at times stretched for more than half a mile as patrol cars piled in to join the pursuit.

Local media estimated that at its peak the pre-dawn chase on 5th December 28 marked cars that were involved in the chase.

Baffled road users flooded social media with footage of the pursuit as lines of police cars followed the getaway car down a multi-laned highway.

The chase reportedly began when officers noticed the car being driven strangely and tried to pull it over.

Within minutes, dozens of siren-blaring, light-flashing police cars had joined in the pursuit.

One witness claimed the chase only ended when the car collided with one of the police cars.

Two men, reports local media, ran off and escaped while a woman and man who were also in the car were arrested.

Petaling Jaya police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid apparently refused to say why so many cars joined in the chase.

Local media reports that the police discovered burglary tools inside the car.
