This is the shocking moment a crocodile rips pieces off the body of a woman who minutes earlier had been washing clothes by the riverbank.
The incident took place when the woman had been washing clothes in the Birupa River, located in Odisha’s Jajpur district, in India.
The crocodile had apparently captured the woman, later identified as Jyotsna Jena, and dragged her underwater to drown her.
The video appears to show the crocodile as it tries to rip pieces off the body before swallowing them in front of horrified onlookers.
The images were taken from some distance away and show the crocodile holding her underwater and then throwing the body into the area to tear off portions to eat.
The video capturing the moment has gained widespread attention across various social media platforms.
Local media named the victim as Jyotsna Rani, saying that she had been washing clothes when she was grabbed by the crocodile and dragged into deeper water.
The tragic event unfolded near Palatpur village, situated within the district.
The alert was raised with officials from the local fire brigade, who recovered the remains of the body.
Despite the shocking footage officials said that crocodile attacks are uncommon in India.
