This is the shocking moment a group of fishermen are rescued from a burning ship that caught fire in the middle of the sea.

The rescue reportedly took place off the coast of Shanwei, a port city in south-eastern China’s Guangdong Province, on 20th August.

One piece of footage shows them clinging to the edge of their trawler, with one man handing onto a rope while in the water as they desperately wait for help to arrive.

Thick columns of black smoke are seen rising to the sky as the blaze quickly engulfs the ship.

Luckily, members of the ‘Big Wave Fishing Club’ who happened to be fishing nearby rush to their aid.

They bring their boat as close as they can to the burning vessel and pull one man from the water.

They were reportedly able to help all the stranded personnel safely evacuate.

Another piece of footage shows the fishermen safely boarded on the white speed boat and watching their vessel get devoured by flames from a distance.

Several fishing boats that also happened to be nearby approached the scene and joined the effort to extinguish the fire.

The footage of the rescue was later shared on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, with the caption: “Today, while fishing at sea, we encountered a trawler on fire. When they saw us, they saw hope.”

The trawler was reportedly extinguished and later towed back to shore.

No injuries have been reported.
