This is the moment a homeowner films a hungry young leopard entering a village where it attacked and killed a pet dog before being tranquilised.
The video was shared by the unnamed netizen from Yanbian, in China’s Jilin Province, who said that the leopard entered the area from a nearby mountain and then attacked the dog on 22nd May.
They said that the leopard had been seen several times in the village, but this was the first time it had attacked a pet so brazenly. The dog that was killed was chained up and was unable to escape when it was attacked by the leopard.
Earlier, that same local had shared a video of what is believed to be the same leopard approaching their car and attempting to eat the wing mirror before wandering off.
Wildlife authorities blamed locals for feeding the leopard encouraging it to return, and killing the dog when it did not get fed on its latest foray into the village.
The Forest Public Security Bureau had no choice but to use a tranquilliser gun to anaesthetise it and then release it back into the wild, but this time further away from the village in the hope that it would not return.
Online commentators like ‘Lotus in the World’ said: “The poor dog was tied up and didn’t even have a chance to escape. The owner was deaf at home and wouldn’t even come out to take a look at the dog when it barked.”
And user ‘Yiyi’ said: “If a person had been in the yard, that would have been a disaster.”
While the user ‘Almost A Handsome Guy’ said: “Can’t you just throw something to scare it away?”
