The dangerous overcrowding of Chinese tourist attractions resulted in violent fighting where hikers beat each other with walking sticks as people jostled for a chance to enjoy the view at the top of the mountain.

The footage was shot as thousands of tourists queued up as temperatures reached up to 38 degrees Celsius to enjoy the ropeway in the Wugong Mountain Scenic Area, Jiangxi province.

According to eyewitnesses, the lack of supervision with everybody jostling to get to the front and enjoy the view led to jostling which eventually resulted in a full-scale punch-up.

In the footage seen here, people are hitting each other so hard with walking sticks that pieces of wood can be seen flying into the air, leaving several people injured.

Thousands of people that can be seen in the footage are apparently waiting for the opportunity to get onto the cable car that would take them to the top of the mountain.

Critics said that apart from a few security guards, there was nobody on staff to guide the tourists or tell them how to queue up to avoid such fighting.

Other critics complained that as well as driving hours to reach the region, they were then left waiting for hours to enjoy the attraction.

Local media reported that those involved in the altercation were later taken away by police, although it was not revealed whether an investigation is being carried out and if they face legal action.
