The breakdown left tourists trapped hundreds of feet above ground after the cable car in the Laojun Mountain Scenic Area near the city of Luoyang in the west of China’s Henan province stopped working.
This video shot by a woman in one of the broken cars who admitted being scared and hot, but found the time to joke that she wished she had bought cable car insurance.
Staff confirmed the incident happened on 10th July and blamed the hot weather for causing a “mechanical failure”.

It was not revealed how long the tourists were trapped before they managed to restart the cable car.
The Laojun Mountain Scenic Area is located on the Yangtze River and the mountain range it represents covers hundreds of miles, including Laojun Mountain which is regarded as the “Father of Mountains in Yunnan”.
On the webpage for the site, it states that: “It is one of the best places in Yunnan, with beautiful natural scenery, abundant natural resources, and special national cultures.”
