The unsanitary conditions were found at the Dr Shankarrao Chavan Medical College and Hospital in the Maharashtra region, in which the 31 deaths happened between 30th September and 2nd October.

Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil, who visited the hospital on Tuesday, 3rd October, ordered the dean to clean the toilets as a sign of his remorse for the bad conditions and asked for a murder investigation to be ordered against the doctors, according to local media.

He said he found many animals walking around, including pigs, and added: “There is a lot of dirt lying around. No one pays any attention.”

Shankarrao Chavan Hospital said: “There were 12 adult patients admitted into the hospital as five were men and seven women.
