This is the moment a biker is saved from a deadly venomous cobra curled up in his helmet by a snake catcher in India.

The rider, named only as Sojan in local media, luckily saw the snake slither into his helmet as he was about to go home after work in the city of Thrissur, in Kerala State.

And after he called the local forestry department for help, they sent an expert snake handler to take on the tricky task.

Video footage of the operation shared online on 6th October shows how the expert, named only as Lijo, pulls the helmet’s lining apart until he finds the cobra’s tail.

As he pulls it inch by inch from the padding, the snake slowly emerges and then when removed instantly tries to sink its fangs into Lijo.

While the handler holds the snake up by its tail to see if it’s uninjured, the cobra constantly twists and turns, trying to strike.

Even when the handler puts in on the pavement, the cobra rises up with its hood flared out to signal danger.

Cobras are among the deadliest snakes found in India and are said to be responsible for the majority of human deaths by snakebites in Asia.

Bites can bring on heart failure and cripple a victim’s respiratory system.

Bizarrely, the bites of young cobras have been used as a form of substance abuse in India, with small bites bringing on a stare of euphoria.
