This is the X Files moment when strange lights in the sky brought parts of eastern China to a standstill.

The mysterious lights materialised above Heze, in Shandong Province, at 7:30 am on 28th September as many people were on their way to work.

Two unnamed locals captured shimmering lights shining through the morning mist, which stunned UFO spotters on social media.

At times the lights seem to change and move into different formations as if spelling out some message.

One of the people who captured the lights said they were not simply sunshine flickering through the mist but had come from the opposite side of the sky.

The footage, shared on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, shows many people gathered on the street, observing the peculiar spots in apparent confusion.

Most seem to stare open-mouthed and stock still as they gaze up at the lights above them.

Official government sources apparently offered no explanation for the phenomenon.

However, many social media users quickly linked them to visiting UFOs.

One named ‘Xia~ke’ said: “This is the clearest UFO I have ever seen. Please come closer.”

Another called ‘Magic Modo’ wrote: “Soon, alien civilizations will appear on Earth and move in.”

And user ‘Zhuhai B&B Real Estate Xiuxiu’ said: “It’s strange. There are so many shapes appearing in the sky lately. Doesn’t China detect UFOs? Are there any foreign products that can be detected?”

Others tried to give more rational explanations for the lights.

One user named ‘silly’ claimed: “That’s the light from the high-rise buildings, but the buildings can’t be seen because of the haze.”
