A woman got a shock when her lighter exploded into flames while she was trying to light a cigarette causing her hair and eyebrows to catch fire.

CCTV cameras captured the frightening incident which reportedly took place in Songyuan, in Jilin Province, north-east China on 27th July.

In the video, the woman, surnamed Xu, appears to be standing behind the counter of a small business and sitting on a bar stool with her back turned to the camera.

Then, as she is trying to light a cigarette, a large fireball suddenly engulfs her face after her lighter blew up.

As her hair catches fire, she jumps down to the floor and attempts to put it out with her hands.

A man quickly runs over and pats the burning lighter with his hand to prevent the flame from spreading across the counter.

He checks to see if her phone caught fire then squats down next to her to make sure she is okay.

Incredibly, she was not harmed, apart from her eyebrows and fringe being burned off.

Xu later said the lighter she used had a small leak which is what led to the sudden explosion.

She admitted she got scared and shocked by the blast, but was thankful she was not injured.

Xu shared the footage of her accident on Douyin – China’s version of TikTok – as a warning to all fellow smokers, with the caption: “I almost burned myself to ashes.”

One Douyin user titled ‘Big brother’ left a comment saying: “The guy who came running is in good shape.”

And user ‘Eyelash Beauty Shin Shin’ wrote: “That man knocking on the lighter is so funny. Shouldn’t he have checked on you first?”
