A 14-year-old girl is believed to have been gang-raped and burned alive after shocked villagers in India found her silver bracelet and bones inside a furnace.

The victim – not named by police – had left home in the Bhilwara district of the Mewar region of Rajasthan, in India, on Wednesday, 2nd August to tend to the family’s goats.

But when the animals returned without her at 3 pm, her family and neighbours began a frantic search.

Shockingly a silver bracelet, shoes and charred bones – believed to be hers – were later found in a nearby kiln furnace used for making coal, according to local media.

Locals who made the grim discovery searched the furnace when they saw it ablaze although it is never used in the rainy season.

The police have arrested three suspects in the Bhilwara district.

Local Superintendent of Police Adarsh ​​Sidhu said that the girl had been murdered and that they are investigating possible rape.

He added: “Police reached the spot with a forensic team. They recovered the girl’s bracelets and shoes.

“A DNA test will also be conducted of the bone samples found at the furnace for further investigation.”

The three suspects are being questioned, with the police chief saying: “The family is in the process of filing the formal report.

“We are waiting on the forensics report for further investigation.”

The investigation is ongoing.
