This is the do-or-die moment when people trapped in a blazing building jump for their lives from a killer inferno.

The fire at a shopping complex in Chhattisgarh in northeast India had trapped many people inside the building when it happened on 19th June.

So rather than perish in the flames, survivors made the desperate choice to leap 30ft to the ground before they burned or were choked to death by fumes.

Shocking video footage of the nail-biting drama shows one after another leaping from a window as the flames lick ever closer.

Beneath them, a crowd has stretched out a sheet of plastic as a makeshift life net but seem to be able to catch a single jumper.

Instead, those falling grab frantically at a bamboo scaffolding pole as they try to break their fall before hitting the ground with a sickening thud.

Some were lucky enough to fall on some mattresses that had been put down for them.

Bafflingly, firefighters seem to focus on putting out the flames in what looks like an empty part of the building rather than rescuing those trapped inside.

Local media reports that it took two hours to put out the blaze, which gutted the entire building.

Three people died of suffocation after being trapped inside while the ones who jumped were rushed to hospital for treatment.
