This is the moment a runaway lorry carrying cement swerves through a road, smashing motorcycles and cars in its path and leaving six people injured.

The vehicle had been carrying a cargo of bags of cement as it drove through Pirangut, in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

CCTV footage of the chaos shows the lorry apparently unable to stop as it smashes a motorbike and its rider aside on 18th November.

Then it swerves crazily into the side of a car and hits a second biker, scattering a crowd of pedestrians who are engulfed in a cloud of dust as it speeds on.

One of the victims can be seen lying on the ground as the clip ends.

Seven people, including the lorry driver, were reportedly injured and one car and five motorcycles were damaged in the smash, according to local media.

Six of the victims were named as Lalit Patil, 34, Mangesh Gaikwad, 38, Bajrang Mazire, 50, Poonam Mazire, 24, Srikant Waghmare, 33, and the trucker’s co-driver 18-year-old Hansraj Hiralal Gautham.

Police Inspector Manoj Kumar Yadav said the driver had lost control on a steep hill.

The police are investigating the crash.
