A pet owner was heavily criticised after a video of him walking into a lift with his two dogs on a double leash shows them almost being strangled when the doors closed, leaving one of the pets outside and one of them inside.

The incident was reportedly captured at a residential building in Xi’an, in north-western China’s Shaanxi Province at around 12:43am on 24th September.

In the video, the man is seen walking into the lift apparently after taking his two dogs for a short walk outside and leading them both on the same leash.

But he is seemingly too distracted with looking at his phone to notice that only one of the pups got in, while the other one remained outside the lift.

The doors then close, trapping the leash and dragging the dog inside up to the ceiling.

It is only then that their owner notices what has happened that he presses the open door button and the stop button, but the lift remains shut and begins moving, dragging the dog inside to the ceiling.

The man then drops his phone and desperately tries to free the trapped hound, apparently trying to take off the leash from the dog that entered inside the lift as the video ends.

Many netizens criticised his lack of attention that nearly caused his pets to be killed after the video surfaced on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.

One user titled ‘67118295’ commented: “It’s unlucky to follow such a master.”

Another user titled ‘Kong Bai’ wrote: “There should be a general rule that fools cannot keep dogs.”

And user ‘big face cat’ said: “How important could his mobile phone be?”

The dog inside was still struggling but alive as the video ends but it was not revealed whether the two hounds were eventually freed unharmed or not.
