This is the moment a player is startled after almost treading on a massive snake that invaded a cricket pitch in Sri Lanka.

The incident took place during a Lanka Premier League (LPL) fixture at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Saturday, 12th August, during the match between B-Love Kandy (BLK) and Jaffna Kings (JK).

In the video, filmed by a fan, international Sri Lankan cricketer Isuru Udana can be seen pacing backwards, fielding at deep mid-wicket, while keeping his eye on the game, unaware that there is a massive snake slithering across the pitch right next to him.

He suddenly turns his head and appears to nearly jump out of his skin as he spots the large reptile, apparently realising that he was just a few feet away from stepping on it and being bitten.

But after the initial scare, he quickly regains his senses and continues to focus on the game, seemingly nonplussed by the large snake.

A second piece of footage shows the incident from a different angle.

After Udana walked away from the reptile, it reportedly left the field. It was then reportedly spotted moments later outside the boundary line.

It is currently unclear how the snake managed to make its way onto the cricket pitch.

It is also unknown what kind of snake it was but Sri Lanka is known to be home to deadly reptiles including cobras and vipers.
