This is the shocking moment a miner fell into an elevator shaft after failing to notice that the elevator had moved up, leaving a gaping hole which he disappeared into while pushing a mining cart.

The worker, whose identity has not been disclosed, can be seen pushing the cart to the elevator in a fluorite mine in the city of Zhuzhou, in China’s province of Hunan.

He walks around the mining cart checking if it seems to be okay before he then goes to the back in order to push it onto the elevator.

From the rear of the cart, he looks up briefly to make sure the elevator is there and doesn’t seem to realise that although he can see part of it, the lower part of the elevator is not in place.

As a result, there was a gaping hole at the end of the rail, which he pushed the heavy cart towards, and he was sucked into the shaft, still holding onto the cart when it dropped into the darkness at around 8 am on Monday, 4th December.

The video ends with him plummeting down to his death in the open elevator shaft.

Chinese media revealed that he was found fatally injured later that day.

The operator of the mine revealed that as a result of the tragedy, they had closed the site as of Wednesday, 6th December.

An internal investigation into the incident, involving all relevant departments, has been launched, claimed the operator.

Devastated social media users did not hold back from expressing their thoughts after the video was posted on TikTok on Tuesday, 5th December.

TikTok user ‘sunset’ said: “Elevator engineers are unreliable.”

Then user ‘Traffic-civilised and enthusiastic citizens’ commented: “The elevator was not stationed at the right location, it was stationed one floor above.”

And ‘Grasshopper jumps’ added: “The elevator is misplaced.”
