A man who killed his girlfriend in a brutal beating then leapt to his death from the top of a waterfall after a stand-off with the police.

Killer Cleiton Ramalho dos Santos jumped 70 metres (230 feet) from the top of the spectacular Salto da Andorinhas Falls in Brazil when police negotiators failed to talk him down.

He was declared dead after officers recovered his body from the water, according to local media.

His girlfriend Simone Sandra Rossi, 39, was found dead at her apartment in nearby Aripuana, in the state of Mato Grosso, on 2nd December.

Businesswoman Simone reportedly died from blunt force trauma injuries to her head and neck.

Dos Santos, the police said, fled in Simone’s car after the killing and was found at the top of the falls beauty spot threatening to throw himself off.

One worker at a restaurant she owned told local media: “She was a good person, with a huge heart, a good mother, a good boss.

“She didn’t treat us as employees but as her children. She was happy, with a beautiful and spectacular smile.”

The motive for the murder is currently unknown.

Police are investigating the killing.
