The lifeless rodent reportedly fell from the ceiling of the food court and landed on a table at the eatery in Nagasandra, Bengaluru.

Traumatised Sharanya Shetty took to Twitter on 16th July to write: “WTF? Guess what fell in our food table at IKEA? I can’t even…

“We were eating and this rat just dropped dead. Most bizarre moment ever!”

Sharanya told local media that one of her friends had “handed me a chocolate cake and asked me to take it”.

She went on: “This was the time when the rat fell from the ceiling. It was crazy and unbelievable.

“Everybody around us was eating and looking at the table while we were trying to find someone to do something about it.

“We called two cleaners and then another guy from Embassy group. That guy called another lady from IKEA, who then went on to call somebody else.”

Sharanya told how employees dragged their feet in dealing with the situation.

She said: “Instead, the tables around were let to continue eating. They took some time to come and change the table.”

Sharanya added that when staff finally came to remove the rodent, they failed to properly clean the area.

She said: “I didn’t create a scene because there were way too many people, and it would create havoc.

“So I simply walked off to see what they would do, and what they did was terrible. There was no system in place.

“Kids and babies were eating around and on the table kept in the same place.”

IKEA India later said in a statement: “We apologize for the unpleasant incident at IKEA Nagasandra.

“We’re currently investigating the situation and ensuring that all precautionary measures are taken.

“Food safety and hygiene are our top priorities, and we strive to provide our customers with the best shopping experience at IKEA.”

One Twitter user joked underneath Sharanya’s post: “Please don’t pay for the extra dish.”

Another quipped: “You got something fully assembled at IKEA and yet you’re complaining!”

A third simply wrote: “Horrible.”
