A car crash is the last thing tourists were thinking of when taking a scenic trip on a raft in a local beauty spot.

The group had hired the raft to travel down the river valley near Xuancheng which is a city in the southeast of Anhui province that has been settled for some 4000 years and attracts many tourists.

The raft came complete with a boatman who was guiding them through the shallow water and was concentrating on safely passing under a wooden structure when suddenly from out of nowhere, a car came speeding across the river.

It appears the car was specially adapted to pass through the water, and the engine did not store as it flashed past in front of the boat.

The unfortunate boatman had no chance to lever the craft out of the way, and smashed into the back of the car, sending him plunging into the water and the tourists screaming in terror.

Eventually, the man managed to clamber back on board soaking wet, and the journey with the visibly shaken tourists could continue.

The boatman had only minor injuries apart from the material damage to the car and the raft.

The four tourists were apparently uninjured in the incident.

The coroner meanwhile reportedly apologised and paid the man CNY 500 (GBP 54) in compensation.
