This is the shocking aftermath of a horror landing when part of a passenger jet’s front wheel arrangement snapped off during touchdown.

One of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane’s wheels reportedly sheered clean off as the 230-tonne plane hit the runway at Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan.

Experts said the failure could have been caused by loose wheel nuts under strain by an air pressure fault in the wheel.

Pictures taken after the Monday, 19th June landing show that one of the jet’s front wheels had disappeared from its mounting.

An abnormality to do with tyre pressure had reportedly been detected beforehand.

The plane – Flight TR897 operated by budget Singaporean airline Scoot – was making a scheduled stop on a flight from Seoul, South Korea to Singapore.

A spokesperson for Scoot also said that a technical fault was detected when the plane landed at Taipei airport.

Emergency repairs grounded the jet with passengers being offered accommodation in hotels and other flights for the second leg of their journey to Singapore.

Taiwan’s Minister of Transportation and Communications Wang Kwo-tsai told local media that the incident was related to maintenance.

No injuries were reported in the incident. An investigation is ongoing.
