A 10-year-old boy had to be rushed to surgery after he curiously inserted a glass thermometer into his willy and it broke as he tried to remove it.

The boy, named Huihui in local media in Jiangxi, in southeast China, initially tried to remove the stuck thermometer on his own, but it broke with part of it slipping further inside.

Panicked, he informed his parents of the accident, and they rushed him to hospital with severe pain and bleeding.

An X-Ray revealed the broken fragment had entered the boy’s bladder and needed to be removed surgically.

Dr Wang Jianghua from the Jiangxi Children’s Hospital immediately prepped for the urgent operation on 24th September and managed to carefully remove the thermometer that was reportedly 2.5 inches in length.

Huihui is now reported to be in stable condition and recovering.

Dr Wang Jianghua took the opportunity to remind all parents to closely monitor changes in their children’s physical and mental well-being and to maintain open communication and dialogue.

It is especially important to focus on the psychological and physiological health education of adolescents, guiding them to develop correct worldviews and life perspectives and creating a positive growth environment for them, Wang said.

The doctor added that in cases like this, it is essential not to excessively blame the child and, most importantly, not to delay medical treatment.

Wang added that parents should encourage their child to speak the truth and promptly seek treatment at a reputable hospital to minimise any harm to the child’s health.
