This is the moment a massive under-construction bridge project turns into a huge waterfall after heavy rains.

Local people travelled from far around to see the spectacle of the new project turned waterfall at Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County, a region under the jurisdiction of Mianyang City in northern China’s Sichuan province.

Video footage shows rainwater that has flooded onto the two bridges and then flowed out through the not-yet-completed drainage outlets on the massive structures.

Across the entire length of the bridge, water can be seen flooding out in a cascade onto the ground below before draining into a huge river flowing underneath.

Online commentators noted that even when the drainage was properly connected it was unlikely to tackle the volume of water that appeared to be flowing in the bridge, in particular a point where it seemed to sections of the bridge were not quite joined.

One noted: “It seems we need to plan for unusual weather events as routine now.”

Officials have declined to comment on whether extra work will be needed to stop water flowing down the motorway onto the bridge or whether this was already part of the project that had simply not yet been implemented.
