This is the dramatic moment a moving lorry gets totalled when its cargo box slams into a low-hanging branch from a tree growing by the roadside.

The incident reportedly took place in Weifang, in China’s eastern Shandong Province, on the afternoon of 24th October.

CCTV footage shows the white cargo truck unable to cross into another lane because of a car on the right side.

The driver apparently failed to notice the branch from a roadside tree was hanging too low over the road and smashed into it as he approached.

As a result, the trailer was completely broken apart, and all the cargo loaded inside was scattered over the street.

Eyewitnesses reported that the front of the vehicle and the driver were unharmed, but the cargo compartment was completely destroyed.

Netizens on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, later criticised city officials for allowing the trees to grow so far that they reached into the middle of the road.

One user titled ‘Sugar is a schnauzer mummy’ commented: “These trees really need some maintenance. Not only are they blocking the storefronts, but they also pose such a significant safety hazard.”

Another user titled ‘Divva’ wrote: “No wonder city workers sometimes cut down the branches protruding from the green belt. This is the reason. It is a safety hazard.”

And user ‘@overtake’ said: “I just want to know who should be held responsible for this. Should the driver seek compensation from the municipal government?”
