A “transparent public toilet” in China has recently caught the attention of netizens.
One person – not named – filmed a video showing that the doors of the public toilet at the intersection of Jiufeng Road and Huifeng Street in the Jiancaoping district of Taiyuan, in Shanxi Province, were transparent.
Not only were they unisex, but the inside of the toilet could be clearly seen from the outside. The video subsequently sparked a series of complaints.
Mr. He, the person in charge of the public toilet at the Sanitation Center of Jiancaoping District, responded that after the incident, the department started rectification work as soon as possible.
Mr. He told local media “After we found the problem, we immediately rectified it, you can see the outside from the inside, but you can’t see the inside from the outside”.
According to local media, Mr. He also stated that it had been open after 10 pm for around five months.
The public toilet in question has a construction area of about 88.5 square meters and costs about 590,000 yuan (GBP 65,182).
It is part of a project that includes 19 public toilets in the Jiancaoping district with a total value of more than 11.22 million yuan (GBP 1,239,592).
