This is the moment a tourist falls from a staircase carved into a mountain on what is one of the deadliest biking trails in the world.

Known as the plank walk, legend has it that there is only one path up the 2154-metre- (7,067-foot-) tall Huashan Mountain, which is considered to be one of five sacred mountains in China, and locals know it as the “most precipitous mountain under heaven”.

It includes Taoist temples, and seemingly impossible pathways are then carved into the rocks that make it a magnet for adventurers from all around the world.

The ladder that the woman fell from was leading down to the notorious plank walk, which reportedly claims up to 100 lives a year, with local officials declining to comment.

At each stage of the incredibly complicated route, there are guards limiting the number of people that are risking their lives, and the video footage captured the moment one of these people lost their grip and plunged from the steps.

Some reports claimed that the woman involved in the incident was unharmed and allegedly caught by people further down.

A spokesman for the route also claimed later that the woman was fine and added they were studying the video to see if they could reduce the risk to tourists in the future.
