This is the terrifying moment a bus driver watches a movie on his phone as he speeds down a motorway at night in India.

The video footage, recorded by a frightened passenger, shows the driver of the long-distance express bus with his smartphone perched on the bus dashboard.

As he repeatedly takes his eyes off the road to look at the phone, the movie can be seen playing on its screen.

Passengers had become alarmed after the bus began drifting from one lane to another.

But when they tried to protest, he could not even hear them because he had the film soundtrack playing in his earphones, according to local media.

The footage, which emerged on social media on 16th October, shows the bus on western India’s Samruddhi Expressway in the state of Maharashtra.

The bus, reportedly owned by Sangitam Travels, takes passengers on the 500-mile run from Nagpur to Pune.

State Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, 53, later said: “This is very serious. For those who put lives in danger, action must be taken against them.

“This video will be taken seriously. Action will be taken on such drivers and efforts will be made to create more awareness.”

Social media users have condemned the bus agency and the driver.

Some users demanded harsh penalties against the driver and the transport company.
