This is the moment a selfie-shooting woman unwittingly stars in someone else’s viral clip as she slips and tumbles down one of the longest escalators in the world.

The embarrassing slip came as the woman was filming her own ride down the 360-foot (109-metre)-long moving staircase in Chongqing, southwest China.

But as she concentrates on her phone, she can be seen tripping on one of the escalator’s steps.

A video clip – shot by someone riding behind her – then shows her rolling head over heels down the steel stairs.

As a man races after her, she comes to a stop by grabbing the handrail before she reaches the bottom of the Huangguan Escalator.

The clip boasts more than 100,000 likes and 40,000 comments on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.

Escalator staff later said the women escaped the fall without serious injury.

They said passengers are reminded to hold onto handrails but some insist on taking pictures and videos.

Staff told local media: “Anyone who has taken an escalator knows that sometimes our warnings can sound harsh, but no one cares.”

The two-and-a-half-minute ride down the escalator is a favourite with tourists and visitors who like to film their descent.
