This is the heartwarming moment a woman saves the life of a little dog on the point of exhaustion after she spotted it struggling to stay afloat in the middle of the Yangtze River.

The woman had apparently been travelling on some sort of barge together with her husband through the Chinese city of Zhenjiang in Jiangsu Province when she spotted what she thought was a person struggling in the water.

Was only when she got closer she realised it was a little dog, probably a puppy.

It was struggling to stay afloat, and as the barge approached, the quick-thinking woman, named only as Ms. Wang, lowers a fishing net and uses it to try and take the dog out.

But the dog is a little bit too large and ends up clinging onto the net with its front paws as the barge continues to power upstream.

After the dog had fallen out of the fishing net several times, she eventually managed to get the little animal inside, and hauls onto the barge, exhausted where it struggles to regain its breath.

Later she can be seen giving it something to drink and eat earning praise online.

It was unclear how the young dog managed to end up in the middle of the river, and the woman said she suspected it had probably fallen off another boat.

Either way, it is now safe, after she decided that she and her husband would adopt it.
