This is the dramatic moment an out-of-control Tesla rams through a locked gate and runs over a passerby.
CCTV footage captured the moment the black vehicle speeds towards the metal gates of a residential community in Ningbo, in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province at around 12:48am on 15th August.
The video shows the Tesla smashing the gates wide open as it continues travelling forwards.
It heads straight towards a pedestrian who spots the oncoming vehicle but is unable to dodge it on time.
The car hits him and knocks him to the pavement.
It reportedly kept going until it ran into the complex’s perimeter wall.
Another piece of footage shows pieces from the smashed brick wall scattered all over the road.
Next to the debris is the wrecked Tesla with its driver seemingly passed out inside behind the deflated airbags.
An ambulance is also seen at the scene as one paramedic tends to the unconscious driver.
It is unclear what the extent of his injuries was.
The pedestrian’s condition is also currently unknown but there were no reported casualties.
The footage was later shared on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, where many netizens questioned if the vehicle malfunctioned or if the driver was at fault.
One user titled ‘pudding’ said in a comment: “Judging from the driver’s posture, it is likely he bent down to pick up something and accidentally stepped on the accelerator.”
While ‘little elder brother’ said: “I’m an old driver and can see it’s not the because of the car.”
And ‘Daniel Wu’ wrote: “Maybe the driver’s shoe got stuck by the pedal, perhaps he was wearing slippers?”
