A motorist accidentally captured on camera a spectacularly massive landslide crashing over the road in front of her which she escaped after stopping to film the view.

The collapse of the huge cliff was filmed by an unnamed woman on a road near Ya’an, a city in south-western China’s Sichuan Province on the afternoon of 18th July.

Heavy rainfall had reportedly led to numerous landfalls and mudslides across the area.

One of them – shown in this clip shared later on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok – reportedly caused a major roadblock, catching travellers off-guard as massive piles of debris slid off the mountainside.

The video starts off by showing a few rocks falling off the cliff.

But just seconds later, vast amounts of rubble crumble down covering the entire road with dirt and thick clouds of dust.

The woman behind camera can be heard loudly gasping, likely from the shocking realisation that it could have been her beneath the soil.

Officials later called for temporary traffic control to avoid unwanted accidents.

People living in the local area have also been evacuated, it was reported.

The footage attracted widespread attention on social media, with many users also speculating the sudden landslide could have been caused by the 4.5-earthquake that shook the country on 15th July.

A Douyin user titled “User 13661649” left a comment saying: “There is a problem with the terrain in Sichuan, either an earthquake or a landslide, it is a dangerous place.”
