A young Malaysian has shared a post of a lamppost being set up almost in the middle of a street shortly before a sharp bend in his remote hometown.

Netizen Clarence Chin – from Belaga, Sarawak State – posted an image of him standing next to the solid metal pole placed on the tarmac.

Clarence captioned his post saying: “Usually I only see people ‘trolling’ about this. But this time, I see it with my own eyes.”

As his image shows, the road is taking a bend just a few feet further down the disputed addition.

It is unclear why road authorities decided to install the lamppost in this dangerous position.

Netizens voiced safety concerns but also joked that it was simply the result of an argument between busybody town hall local decision-makers and the contractor.

Some social media users wondered whether the lamppost was suddenly in such a central position due to a widening of the street as the tarmac looks relatively new.

Clarence – who revealed the hilarious construction on 24th August – later commented: “After the case went viral, there were several people who came forward to complain that they had almost hit the pole, especially at night.”

Belaga Council did not comment on the matter.
