This shocking footage shows the moment a motorist narrowly avoids being crushed beneath a large, falling rock while driving along a mountain road.
The incident was captured on another vehicle’s camera while travelling behind the lucky driver near Ganzi, in south-western China’s Sichuan Province.
In the video, the black SUV is seen travelling in the right lane when it encounters sudden rockfall.
The driver quickly swerves left to evade the boulder and all the debris it carries along.
The fast manoeuvre proves successful as the SUV manages to drive away seemingly without a scratch.
A loud scream can be heard from someone who is riding in the car that filmed the narrow escape.
The video was later shared on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo with the caption: “Encountered falling rocks on Route 318, my legs went weak from fright, luckily [nothing happened]…”
The images were also shared on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, where many netizens praised the SUV’s owners’ luck and driving skills.
According to local media, Route 318 is a winding and steep mountain road frequently prone to natural disasters like landslides and falling rocks.
Local authorities promised to intensify inspections and maintenance efforts to ensure safe passage along the mountain stretch.
They also urged all driver friends to remain vigilant and be extra cautious during driving to ensure their own and others’ safety.
