This video shows the moment a brave man risked his life to scale the side of the building and pluck a child from a blazing inferno and then claims that anybody would have done it.

The fire broke out in the Tianqiao District, in Jinan and in the space of minutes, the smoke had turned into a raging inferno, with the panicked little girl climbing out of the window and crying in terror.

But a brave man later identified as Xu Liang, 31, who had served in the Gannan Detachment of the Armed Police Gansu Corps for five years, scaled the side of the building in order to rescue the child.

The footage shows flames and smoke pouring from the window as the man scales the side of the building, then when he gets the child, helps the youngster onto an air conditioning unit and then sits on the shelf underneath a concrete ledge.

Later firefighters arrived and blasted water through the window before rescuing the man and the child.

Speaking to local media when he was found after leaving without providing his details he said: “I didn’t stay because it was nothing. I just helped a child. I could see it was really dangerous for them and so I just wanted to help.”

The incident took place 10 metres (33 feet) above the ground and a fall would have meant instant death. But he said he focused on the little girl, and it all went well in the end.
