This dramatic footage shows a brave man rescuing a five-year-old boy who was left hanging from a third-floor window after he attempted to climb out when he realised the doors were locked and his parents were not home.

The boy, not named, was reportedly asleep when his parents, Mr and Mrs Deng, stepped outside to run some errands on the morning of 26th September.

But when he woke up and found he was on his own at their apartment in Yongzhou, in southern China’s Hunan Province, he became scared and tried to get out through the window.

Passing neighbours were shocked to find the child hanging from the window ledge as it was too high for him to jump off or climb back up, and they alerted his parents.

At that moment, 38-year-old Peng Guangwen happened to be walking by after dropping off his own child at school.

Peng saw the little boy clinging to the ledge with his hands and his toes barely gripping an unstable plastic pipe.

Concerned that the boy might lose his footing, he immediately rushed to help.

He grabbed a nearby ladder and climbed up it as far it reached, then stepped over a billboard that was placed on the second floor of the building and finally reached the child.

However, he could not help the boy back inside, so he supported his feet instead.

After more than ten minutes, the five-year-old’s mum and dad returned and entered the building.

In the video, Peng is seen keeping the boy securely in place until his parents go into the apartment and then pull him inside through the open window.

Mr Deng later said: “If it weren’t for him [Peng], if something happened to our child, our family would be destroyed.”

Upon learning about the incident, Peng’s wife watched the video of him saving the boy and asked him why he decided to climb up to rescue the child.

He simply responded: “I was just worried that he might lose his balance; I didn’t think much more about it than that.”
