This is the moment a paraglider got the wind up when gale-force winds blew him out to sea off the coast of southern China.

Terrifying footage – filmed from a beach at Hailing Island, Guangdong Province – shows the paraglider dangling 100ft in the air more than a mile from the shore.

The boat that had been towing him on a line was unable to fight the strong winds to pull him back to shore, reports local media.

And the storm was so powerful that the boat was lifted at almost 90 degrees out of the water as it struggled to hang on to the parachute.

Local media reports that the paraglider – named as Mr Chen – had to cling on for 30 minutes before a lifeboat could reach the stricken pair.

The footage was later posted on Douyin, The Chinese version of TikTok.

One user ‘Jackson’ commented: “Fortunately, there was no lightning; otherwise he would have been fried.”

And ‘Stainless’ commented: “Played it once and fell into the sea.”
