A primary school in eastern China has welcomed 12 sets of twins as new pupils, and they have all been placed in the same class.

The twins are among over 100 new first-graders who were enrolled at the Hubin North Road Elementary School in Dezhou, in Shandong Province.

Adorable footage shows the 12 pair of siblings lining up as they walk into the school hand in hand and waving at the camera.

Each pair appears to be wearing the same clothing and can seemingly be only told apart by their name stickers they are seen wearing.

As they entered the school, the twins introduced themselves.

One pair of sisters were quoted as saying: “Hello, everyone, nice to meet you all. I’m Jia Dongxing, and I’m Jia Dongrui.

“We’re seven years old now, and from today, we will be first-grade elementary students.”

Another pair said: “I’m the older brother, and I’m Meng Yunzhe, six years old this year. I like reading books and drawing.”

His twin added: “Hello, my name is Meng Yunkai. I am six years old. I like climbing, drawing and doing handcrafts. We don’t look alike at all, but we are twins.”

To help the children quickly adapt to campus life, the school, based on parents’ requests, placed each pair of twins in the same class, making it easier for parents to manage and better understand their children’s situation, as well as simplify pickup time.

One parent of twin girls named Gao Rui, told local media that to help teachers and classmates quickly recognise them, they made name tags for them.

She put their names on water bottles and backpacks, so they can quickly blend into the group, make new friends, and allow teachers to get to know them quickly.

Gao said: “I hope this can help my daughters quickly orient themselves into the new class and make new friends.”

Teachers said although telling the twins apart, who even dress the same, will be a challenge, they will do their best to learn to distinguish them by subtle differences in their physical appearance and personality traits.

One teacher named Tang Xiaolu said: “We teachers will also communicate with parents to understand more about the twin students and hope they will soon be adapted to primary school life.”

The school has taught many twins before. In 2020, they had 12 pairs of twins, in 2021 they had 13, and last year as well.
