This is the bizarre moment the director of a company that produces chemical products chomps down on a bar of soap to prove it is all “natural” and even claims it can help break down body fat.
Qi Dexi, the chairman of the Chinese company Hongwei, appeared in a livestream video during an orthodox demonstration that he claimed proved that the soap they make is safe and free from chemicals.
In the video, Qi is heard saying (in Chinese): “There are no harmful ingredients inside, see,” before picking up a bar of soap and taking a bite.
While trying to chew the raw bar, he says: “Oh, it’s too dry to bite.” Then, he takes another bite of the soap and washes it down with water.
Afterwards, the chairman adds: “Eating soap tastes like animal fats, with no side effects. After ingestion, it helps break down the body’s fats.”
Qi claimed that the product is made using beef and mutton fat and is free of additives such as talc or whitening agent titanium dioxide.
He added: “We can’t say it helps in weight loss, but it has the effect of breaking down fat and oil.”
The chairman then went on to explain that the company, based in Baotou, Inner Mongolia region, was founded in 1952 and has consistently produced detergents with ingredients sourced from food materials.
He said: “Hongwei Daily Chemicals does not allow a single bucket of sewer oil into the factory.
“We strictly demand our oil suppliers to provide us with edible-grade beef and sheep fat.
“Soap made from beef and sheep fat is delicate, has strong cleaning abilities, and offers skin moisturization and antibacterial effects.
“Products made from food-grade ingredients can provide the skin with natural nutrients.”
Qi added: “We adhere to traditional processes for improved production, maintaining production standards higher than those required by the country.
“We rigorously oversee every step from raw material procurement to production.
“We are even using the hygiene standards required by star-rated hotel kitchens.”
