This is the shocking moment a balcony collapses as a pensioner couple watches a parade sending them plunging to their deaths.
The pair had been watching the procession when the structure suddenly gave way.
Safety experts later blamed poor maintenance and said iron rods supporting the second-floor balcony on St Braz Road, in the Vile Parle Gaothan neighbourhood in Mumbai, western India, had rusted through.
Graphic CCTV footage of the collapse shows a metal safety grill falling away followed by rubble and concrete on 25th June.
As a band passes by in the street beneath, the structure falls away tipping the spectators down into the street.
Two people can then be seen lying motionless as locals gather around and rush to help them as the footage ends.
Two fire engines, as well as ambulances and police, were sent to the accident scene, according to local media.
Police named the two fatalities as Priscila Misquita, 65, and Robbie Misquita, 70.
Their son, 21-year-old Zeno Misquita, was one of three others injured in the collapse.
Another injury victim was named as 53-year-old Sumitra Devi, while the fifth victim had not been named at the time of writing.
One accident investigator told local media: “The entire structure is a residential premise and while the first-floor support appeared to be strong, the second-floor iron rod support looked prima facie rusted.”
Another added: “The senior couple was watching a procession organised by the local community pass from below their house.
“The balcony part suddenly came crashing down leaving the duo dead.
“Their son got entangled in the grill and hence managed to survive. The structure is around 25 years old.”
