This is the grim moment a calf drops dead after being zapped by thousands of volts as it walks into an electrified puddle.

The distressing CCTV footage shows the calf wandering along a narrow road in northern India when it steps onto the shallow puddle and falls to the ground.

The images were filmed in the backstreets of Noida, which is located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Local media said that the calf died as a result of alleged negligence on behalf of the Noida Power Company Limited during this year’s monsoon season.

The calf reportedly walked into the electrified puddle by the waterlogged roadside and was electrocuted to death, with the incident caught on a CCTV camera.

City residents told local media that any of their children playing in the same streets could have met the same fate as the cow.

Local residents have reportedly filed complaints, saying that there are live wires left out in the open, adding that the danger has increased as a result of the rainy monsoon season.

Local media reported that the Bhartiya Gau Raksha Dal, a Hindu nationalist and right-wing federation of cattle protection movements in India, where cows are widely deemed to be sacred, has also demanded a post-mortem on the calf for an investigation to be conducted by the authorities.
