Suspect Manoj Sahani, 56, is said to have murdered 32-year-old victim Saraswati Vaidya and used a chainsaw to cut her corpse into over 20 pieces in India’s largest city Mumbai on 4th June.

He then allegedly cooked some of the body parts in a pressure cooker before feeding them to stray dogs to get rid of the evidence, according to local media.

Police raided the couple’s apartment on 7th June after neighbours complained of a sickening smell coming from the flat.

Inside, horrified officers found piles of body parts waiting to be disposed of.

Locals said the couple rowed frequently and Sahani is accused of killing his partner before using an electric chainsaw to butcher her body.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Mumbai Jayant Bajbale told local media: “Police have found a body of a woman who had been cut into pieces, from a society in the Mira Road area.

“Here a couple was living in a live-in relationship. A preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was hacked to death. Further Investigation underway.”

Police believe Sahani murdered his partner during a violent row.

After allegedly butchering her body he cooked the parts and put them into plastic bags before feeding them to stray dogs.

Neighbours told police that Sahani had been seen feeding meat to strays over the past two or three days, something he never used to do.

Police are also investigating whether some body parts were flushed down a drain.

Sahani has been charged with murder and destruction of evidence.

The investigation is ongoing.
