A female taxi passenger who claimed the driver was overcharging her shockingly jumped out of the moving car when he refused to let her out until she paid the fare.
Dash-cam footage captured the incident unfolding inside the taxi in Zunyi, in China’s south-western Guizhou Province, at around 4:00 pm on 3rd November.
The drama began when the driver, who was not named, informed the woman riding in the taxi she needed to pay CNY 20 (GBP 2.2) for the ride.
Apparently dissatisfied with the amount, the woman instead went on to claim that the charge should have only come up to CNY 10 (GBP 1.1).
She then insisted she would only pay CNY 15 (GBP 1.6) at most.
But the driver refused to negotiate the price and the two began arguing inside the car.
She then told him: “Since we couldn’t reach an agreement, I won’t continue the ride. You can directly call the police, and I’ll get off the car…”
However, the driver would not stop and let her out and kept driving.
Adamant she would not pay the fare, she repeated: “You call the police!” and then jumped out of the moving taxi screaming.
Astonishingly, the driver seemed completely unfazed by her actions and simply closed the door and continued driving as if nothing happened.
The car had reportedly been moving at about 18 mph when she jumped off.
The woman later had to be hospitalised for her injuries, local media reported.
A staff member from the Renhuai City Transportation Bureau said the incident has been reported to the police and the driver has been suspended.
Regarding the taxi driver’s insistence to charge CNY 20 (GBP 2.2), which the passenger claimed to be “overcharging,” the staff member stated that, according to the investigation by the transportation department, the passenger’s journey exceeded the metered distance.
They added: “Therefore, the driver charging this fare was not out of place and doesn’t pose a significant issue.”
The investigation is ongoing.
