A group of tourists narrowly avoided injury after their inflatable vessels got trapped in a single spot while drifting down a fast-moving river.

The bizarre pile-up reportedly took place at a popular drifting spot near the city of Huzhou, in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province.

Phone footage – shared by the unnamed cameraperson on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok – shows the moment an oncoming boat slams into dozens of vessels already trapped in one part of the river.

As the boat crashes, it overturns on its side, throwing the two men onboard into the water.

The strong current pins the boat under the one it rammed into, keeping it stuck upside-down while its passengers try to hold onto the closest thing they can find to remain afloat.

A quick turn of the camera to the side shows dozens of other drifters trapped inside their inflatable devices while rain pours down and fills their boats with water.

Astonishingly, everyone got away safe and unharmed.

Officials later told local media there were no injuries caused by the incident and additional measures had been taken to regulate the flow of drifters.

The person who shared the video said they had to stop filming because people began going overboard.

In a follow-up comment, the person added: “It was raining at that time. My eyes hurt too.

“I turned on the phone and lifted it up to send the video to my companions, telling them that we were trapped, and also wanted to know where they were at.

“Is it safe? When I turned around and heard the call for help, I put down the phone and pulled people to safety.

“That’s why there was no follow-up video, because after pulling a young boy up, I pulled a kid who was about to capsize.

“At that time, it was raining too much and we had four people in the boat.

“[We later] moved to a safe place.”
