A woman with a 180-degree spine fold can finally walk upright again after undergoing life-changing surgery to fix her severe condition.
The 37-year-old woman and mum of three from the province of Guizhou, China, was reportedly forced to support her head with her hands after she developed a reverse cervical curve 26 years ago.
She was also diagnosed with severe scoliosis about 17 years ago, and had since experienced severe walking difficulties leaving her at a height of 1.2 metres (3.9 feet) when standing straight.
Videos shared on social media platforms show her Z-shaped body, folded 180 degrees to the right and back, with her head nearly touching her waist.
In one of the recordings, she can be seen struggling to walk her children to school due to the gravity of her condition.
The woman, whose identity was not disclosed, told Chinese media: “I can’t see the road in front. I can only see a bit from the side.”
Now, footage shared on social media platforms thrilled netizens after medics performed an operation to help her stand straight and walk properly once again.
The video shared by Wang Yu, chief physician of the Orthopaedic Department at the Beijing University Hospital, shows the woman standing at 1.6 metres (5.2 feet) tall after the surgery.
TikTok user ‘Country girl’ said: “Thank you on behalf of this poor woman! Great doctor, you saved this woman’s world! Corrected the rest of her life.”
User ‘Lin Tingyang’ commented: “Pay tribute to the brave mother and give thumbs up to her.”
