This is the moment a speeding lorry overturns and kills two people as it crashes several cars in India.

The incident took place on the Theog-Chhaila highway in the Shimla district of India’s state of Himachal Pradesh, in the northern part of the country on the evening of Tuesday, 8th August.

The lorry, reportedly carrying apples, can be seen in the footage being waved down by a police officer but it is going too fast around a bend and it topples over, reportedly hitting four to five cars which were stopped by the side of the road.

A person can be heard saying “Oh my goodness!” in the footage as the dust settles and one man emerges from a wrecked car and runs away, while another man clambers out of the window on the other side of the car.

Officials said that two people died in the crash and four people were injured. Their names have not been released.

Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, Superintendent of Police for Shimla said: “Two persons were killed after four to five vehicles were hit by a truck.

“The truck overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle on Theog Chhaila road in Shimla district.”

Local media reported that the lorry was travelling from Narkanda to a market outside Himachal via Rajgarh-Solan but it went the wrong way towards Chhaila Bazar due to driver error.

The initial investigation reportedly suggests that the incident took place as a result of brake failure.

The investigation is ongoing.
