A one-year-old boy ended up with a swollen ear three times its normal size after he got bitten by a mosquito while playing outside.

In a video filmed by the toddler’s mum, surnamed Dong, the boy is seen struggling not to scratch his left ear that got bitten by the pesky insect at Zibo, in eastern China’s Shandong Province.

Despite apparently being offered a popsicle as a distraction, he still seems bothered by the massive swelling.

Ms Dong said her son got bit the previous evening while she and her husband took the boy outside to play and enjoy the cool weather.

They noticed a mosquito buzzing around the boy’s head and shooed it away.

They realised it had bitten their son a little while later when his ear started getting red.

Ms Dong said she added some soothing oil on the spot and did not think much of it.

But the next morning she said she was shocked to find the toddler’s ear was three times bigger than the night before.

After consulting with a doctor, she bought the child some medicine to help the swelling go down.

However, she said she also could not help but laugh at the sight of her son’s chubby little hand scratching at his abnormal-looking ear and had to film it.

She later shared the video on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, where thousands of others also related to her situation and shared images of their own children after a bug bite.

And user ‘Sunflower H’ left a comment saying: “I feel sorry for the child, but I can’t help laughing.”
