This is the moment an incredibly rare monster Devil Shark from the deep, weighing nearly a ton is landed by fishermen in Taiwan.

The huge goblin shark normally cruises the bottom of the ocean where its razor sharp teeth, bulging eyes and extended snout make is a deadly predator.

But this one 800 kilo specimen of a shark, that goes back to prehistoric times, was caught off the coast of Nanfangao by astonished fishermen.

The incredibly rare shark was found to be pregnant with six pups when it was hauled ashore.

Goblin sharks are last survivors of the Mitsukurinidae family that dates back 125 million years.

Its shovel-shaped snout, which picks up electrical signals from prey and a nightmarish Alien-style extendable jaw make it a terrifying predator.

Fortunately, its deep sea habitat means it rarely encounters man.

This 4.7-metre-long shark is one of the largest specimens ever caught in Taiwan’s waters.

Despite its rarity the fishermen first wanted to sell it to a restaurant.

But Taiwan’s Ocean Artistic Museum persuaded them to let them buy the shark’s body so it can be studied and put on display.

The footage and the photos were posted on Facebook by the museum with the caption:”This species has translucent skin, pink body, and evil fangs.”

They went on: “Also known as ‘Devil Shark’, it belongs to the ancient shark family and is a very rare living fossil teaching material.

“After fishermen caught it, the shark was almost purchased by a restaurant for food.

“After fighting for it, the Taiwan Ocean Art Museum bought it.”
