This is the grim new dish that’s got customers in Taiwan raving over what must be the ultimate in hoppy meals.

A giant frog weighing in at nearly half a pound (200g) straddles a bowl of buckwheat ramen noodle fish broth with its feet hanging over the rim of the dish.

The unskinned black coloured frog dish has been named ‘Frog Frog Frog Ramen’ by its creators at the Yuan Ramen restaurant in Taiwan’s Yulin County.

Adventurous diners can pay NT250 – worth just GBP 6.37 – for the treat served up with clams, spring onions and special seasoning.

The restaurant explained in a Facebook post: “The frog is uncut, unpeeled, and comes in various sizes, all of them large; all are welcome to chew on the whole thing.”

Owners say the special dish will be offered in limited quantities on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

And if customers’ stomachs aren’t quite strong enough for the grim-looking snack, they can just take a photo for a bargain NT100, or GBP 2.53.

But the dish seems to be going down well on Facebook, where the post has acquired more than 1,000 likes and 1,700 comments.

This is not the first strange seafood dish from Taiwan.

A ramen dish topped with a giant sea roach isopod, and fried rocks costing NT77 – GBP 1.96 – per plate also went viral online when it was announced.
