This is the dramatic moment a motorcyclist rescues two elderly passengers from a vehicle left with smoke billowing from the rear after it veered off the road and overturned, leaving them both trapped inside.

The rescuer, identified as 24-year-old Zhang, said he was travelling along the G318 National Highway near Zogong County, in Tibet, China, when he saw the white SUV skid off the tarmac at around 12:30 pm on 14th September.

Zhang’s helmet-mounted camera captured the moment he stopped by the side of the road and approached the overturned vehicle to help the people inside.

The video, shared later on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, shows him trying to peel off the smashed windshield.

After confirming that there were no other ways to get inside, Zhang asks the two men trapped inside: “Should I tear the glass?”

He is wearing thick gloves, so he uses them to grab the crack in the car and forcefully pry the glass open, creating an escape route.

He beckons to other passing travellers, and one man comes and helps him remove the glass so they can reach the trapped passengers, all the while with smoke coming from the crashed vehicle.

The driver steps out with a visible bleed on his head while more strangers gather to offer help.

Zhang then manages to free the front-seat passenger from his seatbelt and helps him carefully step out of the wrecked car.

They all move further away from the overturned SUV, apparently fearing an explosion as the vehicle begins letting out smoke.

The young motorcyclist later told how he witnessed the entire process of the car in front of him overturning.

He said: “When the car was going around a bend, the driver didn’t turn the steering wheel, and there were a lot of small stones on the road, so it skidded off.”

He added that his first reaction was to pull over and immediately rush to the scene to help, and the camera he was wearing on his head recorded the entire process. ‘

Zhang said: “It was my first time encountering something like this, and I was quite nervous.”

After confirming that emergency services had been called and were on their way, Zhang left the scene and continued on his journey.
